I love helping others

Today on the way home from work, there was horrible traffic on the highway so I cut around the side streets. I got to about 2 miles from my home, and saw a car on the side of the road with the hood up, and another car parked across the street, I suspected someone already had stopped to help, but I stopped anyway. Things happen for a reason and I guess that me deciding to take the side roads was the serendipity that was to be.

It turns out a teenage girl ran out of gas, called her brother at home and he came with the 5-gallon gas can they had in their garage. But the car still wouldn't start. We tried jump starting it, and still it didn't work. So then I realized that the gas can was still over half full... I asked why they didn't put it all in the tank. Sometimes when a tank goes dry (or all the time, I don't know, I have never ran out of gas before!) it needs more than half a gallon to start up again... don't ask me why, but I am sure my dad knows why... I just know that is the case sometimes.

So, apparently the angles made it extremely difficult to get the gas poured into the tank. I am guessing that they were about 17 and 19 years old... still very young kids. Well, I knew I had a funnel in my truck, so we tried using that. It still was a very bad angle, and the gas wouldn't go into the tank. I figured I could make a temporary funnel out of some heavy paper (well actually out of the cover to my 2009 calendar that I had in my briefcase). We used both funnels and were able to get enough gas into the car to get it started.

Yay.

I feel grateful that I was able to help someone out. I was a little late coming home, but it only took less than 15 minutes of my time to help someone else out, to totally make their day. I found out that they lived only a few blocks from me, so in fact I really truly did help my neighbors! How cool is that!

I feel so blessed in my life, and am glad that I can be a conduit to bless others. It is a great feeling!
